But cinnamon is actually too big! Automatically the Maryland USDA Research Center has discovered the wonders of cinnamon. They were doing research on how certain foods affect blood sugar levels. When it comes to apple pie (cinnamon pie) they expected you to have a negative effect on the body.
To their surprise, they lower their blood sugar levels. This was to be studied further. In December 2003, the Department of Nutrition in Peshawar, Pakistan, conducted a study on the effects of cinnamon on blood sugar, triglyceride and good cholesterol levels in 60 patients with type 2 diabetes.
Was given between 1 to 6 g of cinnamon a day and a second placebo. After 40 days the cinnamon group dropped to sugar levels between 18 and 29%. Triglycerides are reduced by 23 to 30% and LDL cholesterol 7 to 27% and total cholesterol 12 to 26%. In fact, the group continued to register low rates even after 20 days of not taking cinnamon! The placebo group has no real changes.
This is good news for people with diabetes and people with heart disease. In a study of rats, one group was given a high fructose diet with cinnamon and the other low sugar. The result was that both parties did the same.
Although mice eat high fructose, cinnamon causes the body to lower glucose levels and control insulin levels and cause stomach fat loss.
